In this series of questions and answers, the goals and features of the new format of advanced level lessons was clearly elaborated upon and it is hoped that such a practice is kept constant. The following two links contain the questions and answers propound upon and a detailed explanation of the new learning format has been presented:&nbsp;<a href="https://hawzahnews.com/xbQRM">https://hawzahnews.com/xbQRM</a><a href="https://hawzahnews.com/xbQPP">https://hawzahnews.com/xbQPP</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;There are two noteworthy points in the above material which indicate to the original subject matter which have been decided upon after a few years of gathering opinions of teachers:&nbsp;&nbsp;1) The general level of students, while observing traditional learning methods (such as discussions and lesson writing), cannot study 4 lessons a day and increasing the study years is not possible&nbsp;&nbsp;2) Majority of the general lessons of the seminary do not study the final sections where as necessarily the final sections do not have a lesser priority in comparison to all other sections and the teachers are looking for a solution to teach those sections. Having said that, the instances that are currently being considered are as follows&nbsp;&nbsp;Firstly: Every teacher, who in accordance to previous formats, is able to study the complete study program with their best students should continue the same format and after completing the term program should hold exams (the number of exam times will be increased). However, as for teachers who in the past were unable to complete the term program, instead of eliminating the final sections, in accordance to the importance and appropriate distribution, should dedicate some lessons as self study.&nbsp;&nbsp;The recommended term study program can be modified after receiving general feedback from the teachers. Thus, the previous education system is preserved for interested teachers and students and as for the rest, it has been endeavoured that a more rational planning is considered.

With effort from the seminary news agency and respected deputy head of education of the religious Seminaries, Hujjat ul Islam wal Muslimeen Rustam Nijād responded to questions brought forth by teachers and students regarding the new format for advanced level lessons of the Islamic seminary.

Contemporary Jurisprudence Research

The Department of Contemporary Jurisprudence

Following this progress, several meetings were held with teachers and different educational departments which was welcomed by the teachers and elders and the admirable progress of the office of contemporary jurisprudence. Many of these respected people welcomed further co-operation with this transformational endeavours. The original aim of these meetings as well was to request a greater presence of the respected elders in lessons and research pertaining to contemporary jurisprudence.&nbsp;As an example from the held meetings, we can mention the meeting held with Ayatullah Jawādī Āmuli which took place with the companionship of the respected head of the Islamic seminaries. This meeting extended the specified time and the respected Ayatullah as well presented strategic discussions and after being acquainted with all the activities undertaken by the office of contemporary jurisprudence and a request for his greater presence, Ayatullah Jawādī Āmuli announced that with the Grace of Allah, he will begin advanced contemporary jurisprudential lessons from this year.&nbsp;&nbsp;Another meeting, with the co-operation of Ayatullah A’rāfī, was held in the presence of Ayatullah Subhānī. With emphasis on this that he has previously taken steps to establish advanced lessons in contemporary issues and its results have also been published in his books of Ijtihād, he expressed his devotion and promised his additional assistance in both introductory lessons in contemporary jurisprudence as well as in advanced lessons of philosophy so that competent teachers would take a step forward in teaching.&nbsp;One of the other meetings that took place was in the presence of Hujjatul Islām wal Muslimeen Shahristānī (representative of Ayatullah Sistānī) whereby after communication of the activities (by the office of contemporary jurisprudence), he advocated for many of these measures and also introduced some teachers for collaboration. The Winter of 1400 (2021) was very productive for the office of contemporary jurisprudence. The start of this season came with the launch of introductory lessons to contemporary jurisprudence, transformational and precise progress in advancing the scientific level of study in the Islamic seminary and an unexpected welcome by the respected teachers and students.

Contemporary Jurisprudence Education

These courses are dedicated to various topics from medical jurisprudence to the economic system in Islam.Please note that only students studying in the advanced jurisprudence lessons can choose a lesson, and if the number of relevant sessions is one or more days per week, it will be considered as a replacement for their regular advanced jurisprudence lessons; On the condition that they participate in another lesson from the rest of regular advanced jurisprudence lessons during the rest of the week.For the students, an advanced lesson can be selected under the section of advanced jurisprudence lessons alongside other advanced lessons (in other subjects). In the current year, there are 73 teachers who have registered for the advanced contemporary jurisprudence lessons and 82 advanced contemporary jurisprudence lessons have been introduced for the students.

List of the Teachers for the Advanced Contemporary Jurisprudence Lessons

It is worthy to note that specific lessons which were held in previous years with scientific collaboration from the office of contemporary jurisprudence will continue in accordance to the previous manner alongside all other lessons.&nbsp;&nbsp;Full text of the communication by the respected head of the Islamic Seminaries&nbsp;Support package for lessons of advanced level contemporary jurisprudence&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;1- From the academic year 1400-1401 (2021-2022) and thereafter, all teachers who have been authorized by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Education and respected management of higher and advanced levels of Qum and have at least 5 years’ experience in teaching advanced level jurisprudence and principles of jurisprudence lessons, can hold lessons around the country in advanced level contemporary jurisprudence.&nbsp;&nbsp;Note 1: Subjects for lessons of advanced level contemporary jurisprudence are announced by the respected head of the Islamic Seminaries in consultation with the office of contemporary jurisprudence of the Islamic Seminaries.&nbsp;Note 2: All teachers interest in teaching the contemporary subjects (apart from subjects in Note 1) can send a detailed index of the subjects and topics of the lessons along with research sources for analysis by the management of the Islamic seminaries and in the event of approval, it will be communicated.&nbsp;&nbsp;Note 3: Lessons of advanced level contemporary jurisprudence must be held at least once a week. Respected students can only participate in oral interview of those lessons in the event that in the rest of the days of the week, they are present in other lessons (both contemporary jurisprudence and other) and have a minimum attendance in advanced level lessons&nbsp; in accordance to the educational regulations of the seminary.&nbsp;Note 4: Respected students of advanced lessons, after passing the two oral interviews, in the event over the academic year, they participate (in this lesson) alongside lessons of advanced level contemporary jurisprudence or other lessons, they can participate in the interview of only one of these lessons at their own discretion and obtain a minimum score of 12 is sufficient to pass the oral interview of that year.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;2- From the academic year 1400-1401 (2020-2021) and thereafter, only students of the aforementioned advanced level contemporary &nbsp;jurisprudence lessons who publish one scientific-research article in their subject lesson will enjoy the following privileges:&nbsp;<ul><li>For every article, two points will be awarded as an accolade (maximum 6 points) in each of the advanced level contemporary jurisprudence lesson interviews with the condition that they obtain a minimum score of 10 in that interview.</li><li>Privilege for those living in Shahrak Mahdiyya for every article in each year in accordance to the relevant regulations.&nbsp;</li><li>Support for publishing of their books in Ijitādī subject of contemporary jurisprudence in the event it is approved by the Publishing Council in accordance to the approved regulations.</li></ul>&nbsp;Note 1: The list of journals subject to this section will be announced by the Honourable Deputy Head of Seminary Research.&nbsp;Note 2: Presentation of official certificate for acceptance of article in the journal when it is published.&nbsp;Note 3: Support regulations are approved and announced for the publication of books (related) to contemporary jurisprudence in co-ordination with the respected deputy head of research and with the presence of the respected head of the office of contemporary jurisprudence. In accordance with assistance in this affair, the budget and capacities of the Research Support Secretariat and the budget of the Directorate can also be used.

In accordance to the communication by the respected head of the Islamic seminaries, from the academic year 1400-1401 (2021-2022), all teachers who have authorization to hold lessons of advanced level jurisprudence can proceed to hold lessons of advanced level contemporary jurisprudence in the subjects announced by the administration of the Islamic seminaries in which case, the lessons of these respected teachers will be considered as formal lessons of the Islamic seminary and will enjoy the relevant distinctions.

During the unveiling of newly published advanced jurisprudence volumes by the Office of Contemporary Jurisprudence, Hojjatoleslam Hosein Ethna-Ashari highlighted several major developments:&nbsp;Achievements:<ul><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Five key volumes on Islamic Legal Theory—including Al-Fāiq fī Al-Usūl, Al-Rāid fī Al-Usūl, and a related commentary—were compiled and taught in 240 classrooms across the country, reaching 5,000 students over the past two years;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Authoring the book entitled “A Legal Entity” and making a start on teaching this book on a trial basis;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Formation of 8 research groups with the cooperation of university professors in the fields of economics, fundamental rights, human rights, legal procedure, social media, artificial intelligence, and cryptocurrencies;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Cooperation with the jurists of the Islamic Seminary and launching advanced jurisprudential lessons in the subjects of cryptocurrencies, money, stock exchange, and capital market, judicial law, legislative jurisprudence, and legal entity;&nbsp;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Compilation and publication of 9 volumes of books out of the lessons of contemporary jurisprudence;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">A collaborative platform was developed with Islamic Seminary departments for professors and students to promote advanced jurisprudential studies in contemporary jurisprudence. This initiative led to a record-breaking academic year (2022–2023), with 50 courses and over 3,400 participants, making it the most attended and most offered subject area in advanced jurisprudence—representing nearly 45% of all enrolled students.</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Announcement of more than 200 topics for level 3 and 4 theses related to the topics that were taught.</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Four books were compiled covering key topics: SDRs as the first international currency, legal perspectives on money, and AI ethics. These works will be distributed to seminary teachers and presented with published critical reviews and appropriate academic titles—similar to how the late Kashif al-Ghita’s Tahrīr al-Majala was introduced—for inclusion in curriculum at Islamic Seminaries and universities.</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Formation of specialized working groups to review international and domestic documents and laws.&nbsp;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Compilation of a single-volume critique addressing UNESCO’s draft recommendations on AI ethics. Developed with input from experts in jurisprudence, ethics, philosophy, and law, the work was submitted to Iran’s UNESCO negotiation team and is slated for expansion into two comprehensive volumes for future publication.</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Establishment of “Ijtihād to University” network to convert scholarly work from Islamic jurists into accessible academic articles. This effort successfully led to the publication of its first paper—on cryptocurrencies—in the Monetary and Banking Journal of Iran's Central Bank Research Institute, marking a breakthrough in bridging traditional jurisprudence and modern academic discourse.</li></ul>&nbsp;Future Plans<ul><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Introducing 8 foundational courses in contemporary jurisprudence, featuring 19 key titles including A Bank with Usury, Sovereignty in Islam, and other topical studies;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Planning the compilation of 7 new volumes covering advanced jurisprudential issues on contemporary subjects, scheduled for release in the upcoming academic year;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Officially launching the course titled "The Legal Entity" as part of contemporary jurisprudence, designed to complement the foundational text Makāsib;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Preparing to publish at least five specialized volumes, each accompanied by scholarly critique from seminary experts, on pivotal subjects including venture capital, monetary law, AI ethics, and separation of powers;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Producing an "Ijtihad Roundtable" program, a thought-provoking broadcast featuring seminarian jurists discussing key issues in jurisprudence and Islamic Legal Theory;</li><li style="direction:ltr;text-align:justify;">Undertaking the translation of Islamic Seminary educational materials into global languages to enrich and contribute to the international academic literature;</li></ul>In continuation, pictures related to the unveiling ceremony of the books of advanced jurisprudence have been uploaded:<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:77.93%;"><img src="https://fms.s3.ir-thr-at1.arvanstorage.com/photo_2022_11_16_23_26_34_ae50c881c5.jpg"></figure><figure class="image image_resized" style="width:77.61%;"><img src="https://fms.s3.ir-thr-at1.arvanstorage.com/photo_2022_11_16_23_26_31_0f7ff73bce.jpg"></figure><figure class="image image_resized" style="width:76.64%;"><img src="https://fms.s3.ir-thr-at1.arvanstorage.com/photo_2022_11_16_23_26_05_a01d004172.jpg"></figure>

Progress in Islamic Legal Thought; Achievements and Plans

Cases also are reported even receiving money for every download of the book.&nbsp;Additionally, the available scanned copy is outdated, and due to the subsequent changes, it cannot be relied upon or cited in any form.&nbsp;The scanning action was carried out without the permission of the Department of Contemporary Jurisprudence, but it also is against the existing regulations in Iran, a case which will be legally pursued by the 'Intisharat Hawzeh' (Hawzeh publications).&nbsp;The final copy of the book 'Al-Fa'iq' will be published in the near future on relevant software for those interested in it. The necessary announcements will be made in due time.

According to the news agency of the seminary, Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, the Grand Marja of the Shia, deemed it necessary to pay deep attention to the subjects in of contemporary jurisprudence.

He made the request in a meeting with the heads of the seminaries and the contemporary jurisprudence department while praising their accomplishments in the field. He emphasized the importance of focusing on the depth of the subjects and ensuring a strong intellectual role the Office of Contemporary Jurisprudence should play.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ayatollah Arafi expressed gratitude to Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi for his support, discussed seminary administration and programs, and highlighted the initiatives and publications of the Office of Contemporary Jurisprudence.

He emphasized the importance of thorough 5-year planning for significant tasks, including the activities of the Office of Contemporary Jurisprudence. The focus is on advanced lessons rooted in seminary methodology, avoiding pseudo-enlightenment ideas, and relying on independent seminary principles. The institute collaborates with seminary and university teachers to analyze subjects jurisprudentially. This year, a 9-volume book on ijtihad in contemporary jurisprudence has been published, with plans for an equal number of new books next year.

The head of Iran&#39;s Islamic seminary highlighted the collaborative effort behind the book Al-Fā&rsquo;iq and its commentary, authored with the support of renowned advanced jurisprudence teachers. He emphasized that this book, as a supplement to Kifāyah, has sparked intellectual growth in the seminary. He also noted that future publications will be added to the seminary education system which will complement Makāsib in subjects such as &#39;legal entity.&#39;

Identifying and publishing books which in the last 100 years have been authored in Najaf and Qom on contemporary subject was a project he considered one of the other tasks of Contemporary Jurisprudence Office in the next year.

Ayatollah Arafi noted: &quot;We have contacted different Government bodies and have collected their issues and principle needs and formed more than 20 intellectual committees with the respected research executive Hujjatul Islām wa al-Muslimīn Muqīmī Ḥājī.&quot;

He stated that students, teachers, and seminary centers conducting strategic research aligned with announced guidelines to address societal issues will receive support, adding that over 100 projects have already commenced and are set to be published by next year.

<a name="_Hlk193138132"></a> Rapid Growth in Seminary Lessons

Hujjat al-Islam wa al-Muslimīn Esna Ashari, head of the Department of Contemporary Jurisprudence of the seminary, for his part said: &lsquo;Although these lessons began in the second half of the seminary school year, 72 teachers and more than 1000 students participated in these lessons and it is anticipated that this number will be doubled in the next year.

With over 200 teachers, around 4,800 students are enrolled in advanced contemporary jurisprudence lessons, and 2,500 in Al-Fā&rsquo;iq courses, he reported and said the figures reflect 45% of high-level students&#39; engagement with contemporary issues in some capacity.

Hujjat al-Islam wa al-Muslimīn Esna Ashari added: &quot;At higher levels, students and teachers not only teach and study but also research new lessons alongside traditional seminary subjects. This allows them to grasp traditional principles of ijtihad while exploring its application to contemporary issues.&quot;

During the meeting held at Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi&#39;s residence, he highlighted the growing interest in jurisprudence and its principles within the seminaries, emphasizing their foundational role in religious rulings. He acknowledged the significant initiatives in this field, praising them as important steps in the right direction.

He highlighted subjectology examples, emphasizing the need for precise analysis of money, its origins, and generation within the complexities of the modern global economic system.

He argued that topics of cryptocurrencies, their classification as money or commodities, and the analysis of various company forms and investment types require precise scrutiny.

Hujjat al-Islam Esna Ashari reported an extensive seminary-university team being established from different scientific fields and serious attention is being given to interdisciplinary research and different thematic aspects such as money. Likewise, opinions of legislative groups are being taken into account and lengthy periods are being dedicated to thematic while sometimes last over a year.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi Calls for Special attention to Contemporary Jurisprudence Works

Approximately 20 days ago, the Office of Contemporary Jurisprudence launched a general call for seminary and university thinkers to assist in the critique of the draft.

&nbsp;A number of seminary teachers and researchers working in jurisprudence, ethics, philosophy, law and artificial intelligence announced their readiness in this regard to present strategic&nbsp;and appropriate legislative recommendations.

The Head of Iran&#39;s Seminaries Ayatullah Arafi delivered the prepared critic on the document to President Raisi so that it may be used by the relevant Iranian authorities prevent the entry of such alien issues as the 2030 document (UNESCO&rsquo;s Sustainable development goals), which is in contrast to the Islamic-Iranian culture of the country.&nbsp;

The finalized UNESCO document on AI ethics will be reviewed, and a revised critique will be published as a standalone book.

“Al-Fāiq fī Al-Usūl” Wins Islamic Seminary’s Book of Year Title

With the grace of Allah, in these six and a half years, activities by the office of contemporary jurisprudence and in these 320 meetings, each of the teachers has had an active presence of at least 80% and some till 90% in these meetings. Similarly, during the period of Corona and other than that, without the least diminution, the meetings were held regularly and with minimum absences.&nbsp;After a few months of concise discussion, one of the most difficult discussions was in relation to legal entity, that is, analysis of the relation between the executive and legal entity is towards completion. It is an interesting discussion in which there exists a range of opinions and the discussion in this subject was completed approximately yesterday,&nbsp;Although the lesson discussions in the second section of the book ‘الشخص الاعتباري’ (Juridical Person) is almost completed and God willing will be published in a book in the month of Dey (10th month of the Persian calendar which coincides with approximately January in the Gregorian calendar) however additional discussions and copious research will be added to the book by the next year which will be delivered in the level of scientific reference and will be exclusive to experts in this field.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is hoped that the product of years of intellectual research by teachers and specialists in this field has a significant impact outside of the system in many of the related issues such as issues which have been reported (as well as) questions regarding it which have been sent to us continuously from&nbsp;decision-making bodies.

Second Edition of 'The Fiqh of Cryptocurrencies' Now Available Online
