In line with realizing the objectives of His Eminence the Leader Ayatollah Khamenei (may God prolong his life), the esteemed Maraji` of Taqlid, Teachers, and seminary students, and in order to implement articles 1, 2 and 3 of the overall objectives and strategies of the new document ‘Vision for the Islamic Seminaries’; as of May 2016, the Department of Contemporary Jurisprudence of the Islamic Seminary under the academic guidance of Ayatollah Shab Zendeh Dar, began its mission as one of the institutues under the supervision of the chancellor of the Islamic Seminaries of Iran, Ayatollah Arafi.

This department consists of an academic council comprised of renowned teachers and instructors of advanced kharij-level studies, including: Ayatollah Shab Zandeh Dar, Ayatollah Shahidi, Ayatollah Andalibi, Ayatollah Qaini, Ayatollah Sayyid Modaressi (may God prolong their lives), as well as a large number of seminary and university professors and researchers.

Overall objectives of the Department of Contemporary Jurisprudence:

1)

The evolution and improvement of advanced seminary instructional texts and textbooks in the fields of jurisprudence (fiqh) and principles of jurisprudence (usul al-fiqh); whilst maintaining the correct traditional and ijtihadi methodology of the Shi’I seminary.

2)

The development of advanced kharij-level fiqh and usul lessons in contemporary topics and legal deduction principles;

3)

The expansion and deepening of research, articles and theses on contemporary jurisprudence subjects;

4)

The creation of an appropriate channel for academic activity and the flourishment of talented students, the increase of input of ideas from seminary students, and the development and nurturing of active and effective jurists (fuqaha);

5)

Laying the grounds for the increased participation of the Islamic seminaries in knowledge creation on contemporary subjects.
