Iranian Delegation Participates in INTOSAI Big Data Auditing Working Group Meeting

The 10th Annual Meeting of the Big Data Auditing Working Group of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) was held in Kenya

The 10th Annual Meeting of the Big Data Auditing Working Group of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) was held in Kenya, with the active participation of a high-level delegation from the Supreme Audit Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) News Agency, the international meeting was attended by representatives of the supreme audit institutions of more than 18 countries, with active participation from the Iranian delegation consisting of:

Hassan Zamani, Deputy for Legal Affairs, Parliamentary Affairs, and Budget Auditing of the Supreme Audit Court of Iran;

Rahim Zare and Hojjatoleslam Javad Nikbin, members of the Iranian Parliament's Planning, Budget, and Accounts Commission.

 

As the first speaker on the second day of the conference, Hassan Zamani referred to the growing role of information systems, databases, and electronic transactions in generating public resources and revenues and stated:

"In the new era of governance, traditional auditing methods based on reviewing a limited number of documents and conducting occasional sampling are no longer capable of addressing the complexity and breadth of economic activities. Therefore, utilizing the capacities of big data auditing as a modern approach to financial oversight makes it possible to conduct comprehensive monitoring, intelligent analysis, and the timely detection of irregularities in the area of public resources and revenues."

He also emphasized the necessity of Developing technological infrastructure; Enhancing specialized capabilities; and Employing modern technologies to increase the effectiveness of financial oversight and safeguard public assets.

 

The conference opened with speeches by:

Nancy Gathungu, Chair of the Organization of English-Speaking African Supreme Audit Institutions and Auditor-General of Kenya; and

Isma Yatun, Chair of Indonesia's Audit Board and the incoming Chair of INTOSAI.

During the event, participants discussed and exchanged views on the most important issues, opportunities, and challenges related to big data auditing in the era of digital transformation and artificial intelligence.

 

On the sidelines of the conference, the Iranian delegation also held separate bilateral meetings with: the heads of the supreme audit institutions of Indonesia and Kenya; and Deputy officials of the supreme audit institutions of India and China.

 

The INTOSAI Big Data Auditing Working Group, which includes more than 50 supreme audit institutions from countries such as China, the United Kingdom, France, Brazil, Canada, Russia, India, Pakistan, South Korea, and Turkey, operates as one of the key specialized working groups under INTOSAI's Knowledge Sharing Committee.

The Supreme Audit Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran became a permanent member of this specialized working group in 2024  and has since played an active role in advancing its programs and professional initiatives.
